Welcome
Did you know that Pacific Islander overweight and obesity rates are higher than any other ethnicity in the state? Did you know that cancer, diabetes, and heart disease rates among Asians are increasing at an alarming rate?

The Pacific Islanders are a small community. Society believes the myth that Asians are small and do not need to be concerned about weight. For reasons such as these, the Asian and Pacific Islander community is largely invisible in the obesity discussion. This can no longer continue.

Asian and Pacific Islander Obesity Prevention Alliance (APIOPA) seeks to prevent obesity and chronic disease in the Asian and Pacific Islander Community by advocating for healthy environments. While education and awareness are necessary for lifestyle change, communities must also provide accessible and affordable opportunities for families to get nutritious food and exercise.
